The National Mental Health Development Unit (NMHDU) asked me to design a course database for them. The database needed to hold information on all people taking specialised courses as well as details of course instructors. From the database they could find out lists of all people who had taken a specific course, details of all the courses and when they were run as well as who the instructor was.
The key features they needed for their course database were:
- The ability to show details for the person type, allocate individuals to networks, regions, and events
- Ability to filter individuals based on course, event, region and various other criteria
- Ability to send emails or perform a mail merge based on a filtered group of contacts
- See details of all individuals who had attended a particular course
I designed the database using Microsoft Access. It had a simple to understand layout and included all the functionality that the NMHDU had asked for.
When I finished the project I ran a workshop on how to use the database as well as writing a database guide.
